"Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words." -- Robert Frost

BookHomestead (BH): What got you writing poetry?

Arthur: Photography has always been a gift to the eye of my soul, wanting to write captions for my not knowing what to write because I’m so bad at the mechanics of grammar, I gave up on writing. A wonderful woman that I have gotten to know, a poet herself wrote a few lines to one of my photographs and it grew from there. Amazed at what she wrote, telling me to listen with my heart and I would find my voice, that voice being my inner soul speaking out loud the words I write for one to see as a photo on paper, but woven into words instead. My heart and soul, captured as a photograph put into words of poetry.

BH: What inspired your romantic poems?
Arthur: I have photographed beautiful women in my time. I’m very attracted to the sensuality of a woman, the way she sets, the gracefulness in movement, all combined in the way I try and capture on film the way women would like to be seen. I believe the true sensuality of all women is locked in her mind and a lot of us men including myself don’t really know how to unlock them gates to their secret gardens if you will. With that said, most all my poems deal with the way I feel and see in my mind, the way they would like to be printed on film, transferred over into poetry in motion, a romantic poem.
BH: How much time do you dedicate to writing?
Arthur: I write everyday, I write every chance I can get. I’ll hear a song; I’ll see a sunset, a sunrise, a beautiful woman, nature, flowers. I get inspired a lot by many things that surround me wanting to write something, taking notes all the time. I can not write enough.
BH: How do I feel about my your first published collection of poems?

Arthur: Never in my life, my wildest dreams did I ever think I would have a book of poems. With the hard work and time of a wonderful lady “Clary Lopez” my first book of poems would never been born. She is the binder of my soul. Thank you Clary.
BH: What is your local community and family saying about the book?
Arthur: They are all proud, I’m very grateful that I have such a loving family that gives me the space to write what I want as they know my poetry is also an outlet of emotions woven into poems. Friends of mine are all very surprised to know that I’m a poet, if you want to call me that. I’m very modest and don’t consider myself one.
BH: Any future plans?
Arthur: I’m on my way with many, many more poems. I’m hoping that this first run will do well and I would love to put out another collection if possible as long as there are readers that enjoy reading the type of poetry I write.

BH: What would you say to someone who is thinking about writing poetry?
Arthur: Open up the floodgates, don’t hold anything back, and write what ever you feel you want to write about. Journal everything, don’t be afraid, let your emotions go. This is how you find your voice, that inner spirit that talks to us everyday. Listen and you will have no problems writing.
And most of all, enjoy doing it, don’t make a project or job of it, just do it, you will succeed.
